Big Bad Wolf 2012

Ok, about the current hip in town, Big Bad Wolf!! *This entry was in the draft for 2 weeks - phew*

As I mentioned before, this year is my 3rd year in a row visiting my 'wolf'..but when I checked back, opsss, not! I didn't go last year because I just gave birth to Emir.

My first time was in 2009 - I was carrying Zahra. Read here.
My second time was in 2010 - I went with Fiena and brought Zahra along. Read here.

Each event has its own flair and they do it at different place. But one thing for sure, it's getting bigger and bigger! This year they announced that they have 3 millions books! Can you believe it? The first year I went, they open it at Armcorp mall, then at South City Mall, and this year, they has to rent Mines Convention Centre.

MrComot didn't offer himself to go this year, in another word, he is not interested in accompanying me hahaha. So I have to catch any of my girlfriends who share the same interest. The event started from 7th Dec until 20th Dec but they made a stunt with 63 hours straight service (7-9th) and it pokes the right nerve, I want to go!! Luckily, Bee wanted to go too and yeah, the rest is the history.

MrComot gave the green light for me to enjoy my me-time, without the kids and at the very ODD hours! We went there on the first day they start the 63-hours challenge, on Friday around 11PM until 230AM in the morning! This is the first time MrComot has to stay with the kids alone and he is such a darling, for letting me doing crazy thing like this, book shopping at midnight hahaha.

But what life without drama right? Handsome boy poo right before I step my foot outside the house, so I have to rush in and wash him up..then suddenly Zahra want to follow me. I told her I am out for work and she said "nak ikut mommy pegi work" with sad voice. Oh noooooo...I am this close to bring her too but that will be quite irrational right, so I just said "sorry Zahra, mommy can't, nanti mommy balik ok?" and quickly leave her to MrComot.

I don't know how MrComot put them to sleep, because Emir never sleep without me (he need his 'candu') and Zahra won't sleep if Emir didn't sleep yet. One thing for sure, my hubby managed to do it, but the next morning I saw a cut on Emir's forehead and when I asked, he said he doesn't know! Hahaha. Ok that explains, maybe Emir bang himself somewhere, got the cut and cry and then sleep alone! LOL.

Ok, back to the BBW. The traffic was craaaaaaaazzzzyyyy! It supposed to be quieter because it's midnight, but I think everybody has the same excitement, and furthermore it's weekend the next day. So apa lagi, lepak kedai buku is the IN thing haha. We parked at Mines shopping complex and have to walk a bit to the convention centre.

Cars are queuing to enter the carpark at MIECC. We parked right before it.

 The lambo

 World's biggest book sale!!

 On my right

 On my left

It's a verrrryyyyyy big area 2 tingkat lagi! The upper level is playground and food court for your spouse and kids to wait for you I guess, because 1 hour definitely not enough! There are piles of books and I have instant dizziness the moment I enter the hall hahaha. I don't where to start because books are everywhere. They divide the hall into few sections like Art&Craft, Hobbies, Fictions, Young Adult, Kids, Cookery, etc etc. They also has this small corner for Malay novel! Ok, this is new I think..last two times I went, no a sight for Malay novels.

Obviously I ran to art&craft and kids book and both section took me almost 3 hours! I flipped some at cookery section and they have arrays of Nigella Lawson and Jamie Oliver at a very yummy price - RM20 to RM30!! Hard cover and thick book, crisp printing with beautiful colors. Sesuai buat collection. I was tempting to haul all, but the the rational me came and said, you won't read it and you need the money for kids books..hahaha. So yeah, I didn't buy.

And this is what I bought instead, 32 books.

All for Zahra and only 3 for me, if you can spot it (hint: it's at the left corner).

Most of the books are for Zahra. Maybe she won't read it now but all is hardcover and can last long, so it is worth as a treasure. My most favourite one will be as below, "does a zebra fly?".

Cute isn't it? That's only part of it. The last page will be 'does a zebra fly?'. You want to know? Go grab it yourself ha ha ha. Ok it's not funny, but yeah, the kids section is pretty fun. So, go check it out ;)

I didn't browse the fiction at all (used to be my favourite) because I don't feel like reading books nowadays. It's more fun to run my fingers on the phone for Pinterest LOL.

The queue when after we paid and about to leave. It's already 2.30AM and still ridiculously long!

We rushed out because all of us are so hungry and sleepy! But we didn't stop anywhere to eat, and all I want to do is go back and check the kids out.

The next day I woke up around 10AM and still feel sleepy and very drowsy. I guess I am too old for late night out ha ha ha.

The event is still on until 20th December and they keep on top-up the books. So the tittle will be vary each time. Wish I can go there every week to check it out. Everyday will be nice too, but that will be too delusional hahaha. ***Gosh, while I typing this I just notice that today is already 19th!! It's gotta end soon!***

Anyway, thanks to my friend Bee! She pick me up and drove me back and she's the reason MrComot allow me to go to BBW at very odd hour!

***********EDITED**************

BBW just made another announcement. They are extending the sale with 60-hours craziness!

Blistering Blue Barnacles!

Tintin the movie is here! Well, that's old news I guess, and I don't think I will have a chance to watch it at cinema so I'm not pretty excited about it but when Wahdi wrote about his trip in Brussels where Tintin is originated, uwaaaaaaaaaaaaa jelesnya!! I want to watch Tintin! Well, I want to go to Brussels too, but that is far impossible hehe.

If you read my blog since early days, I've wrote about Tintin and I think I wrote more in blogdrive (but the account was deleted by admin because I was inactive for so long :( ). I started collecting Tintin since I was in uni days..that is like 6-8 years ago! And tell you what, I have all the series!! Mwahahahahahaha

My mom used to say, 'apa ni beli buku kartun mahal-mahal'. Ya lahhh..I am like 20 plus already and maybe she thinks Tintin is kartun budak2? And it is expensive! At least to me. Those days, it was priced at RM29.90 or so, and I went high and low looking for the best bargain and found my love snuggled in Chowrasta bookstore! It's a secondhand bookstore, not really a store, more like a shabby place filled with books and magazines from floor to the roof. But they also selling new books, and my Tintin all is newwwww...at only RM20!!

Oh my..I miss that place so much. This is one of the entry about it. I used to spend hours and hours on every outing and the uncle siap kenal I ok. But now I'm not sure if he still remember me, as it was years ago. Funny thing is, I kinda miss him too. He's so knowledgeable and good with books. If I looking for some titles, he knows exactly where to dig it and if he doesn't have it, he will recommend me another title/author but more or less is sooo my taste. Terer uncle tu! Last time I saw him when I went there with MrComot, he's so old already, and gained some weight. I hope he's doing well now... Oh ya, this is also the place I bought all my Sidney Sheldon's! Those were the days..

Anyway, after reading Wahdi's entry, I quickly went to upstairs to find my Tintin and could only find 4 of them!!! Dangg! I forgot that the rest is in Terengganu. I'm gonna bring all of them here! ASAP! Haha.

The only 4. Still in mint condition and crisp like new! I handle and flip it like holding a baby, so precious and carefully :P

You can see all the titles behind. I have them all except the last one, Tintin the Alph-Art. That one is special, not the comic itself, I think more like the sketches collection of Tintin. Anyway I couldn't find it anywhere, even in MPH/Kino/Borders/etc..

This comic also translated to dozens of language worldwide!

Oh ya, blistering blue barnacles is Captain Haddock's famous expressions :D

Big Bad Wolf 2010

An overdue post.

Thanks to my dear friend, Fiena, I managed to go to BBW this year! Last year I went with MrComot and was heavily pregnant that time, it was nearby btw, at Amcorp Mall, but this year, hosted at South City Mall Seri Kembangan, it will be mission impossible for me, because it's quite far and MrComot doesn't want to squeeze in with Zahra along. So I didn't put any hope in joining the crowd but luckily I was on leave that day (Zahra's babysitter wasn't well) and Fiena also on leave! She picked me up and drove us there, yeay!

We went on the first day and it was weekday, but the crowd is there already, not to the brim, but we still had to queue!

Stroller is a no-no when you go to thrifty party like this. Not because to easing me grabbing everything but I don't think it's appropriate to shove your stroller when people are rushing in a sale like this. I feel that it will offend the book lover if I bring stroller in, because I will. And maybe you are not even allowed to bring it in, I didn't see any notice about it by the way.

Quite clear, but till you see the payment line. It's insanely longgg! Fiena helped to queue for us while I go for quick lunch *ehem thanks darling! snif snif* and furthermore because Zahra already restless and wants to be out of the pouch. She was so sleepy actually but refused to sleep because so many people around her, so she's throwing tantrum instead.

I had to let her out for a while and see what she's doing. Climbing the table! She even made friends with the auntie who are sitting on the floor selecting her books.

Overall, the book is very cheap. All the fiction novels go for RM8!! Including the latest edition. And I can see piles of J.Grishams, J.Picoult, S.King, N.Roberts, N.Sparks and so on. I went gaga over them but decided to buy any because I don't I will read that soon. I bought The Gatecrasher by Madeleine Wickham (also known as Sophie Kinsela in Shopaholic series) and guess what, Cocktail For Three is also there at RM8 when I just bought it few months ago for Rm35.90! *cried*.

Also bought few books for Zahra and they are freaking cheap at RM5 each. Hard cover, interactive, colorful - very good quality. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to rumble all the selections because Zahra dah rimas so dia pusing sana sini in the carrier and merengek2. So I just grab a handful that I like - The Poppy Cat series!

There are 4 stories actually but I didn't manage to find the last one titled Goodnight, Poppy Cat. Too bad..because it will be a perfect piece for me to tidurkan Zahra ha ha ha. I think it was there, somewhere under the piles but I couldn't dig any longer, my poor princess was very restless.

It was a very good sale that I wish I can spend more time there digging and finding. I even missed the magazine section (was thinking to grab some craft magz). And how I wish it was nearer so I can go there on the 2nd, or 3rd, or 4th day.. I promised myself that I will go to BBW next year, only that without Zahra Elena! Or maybe she's gonna big enough that time that she also can help me digging the books ;)

Mistress of the Game

If you've been following my blog, you'll know that I'm a huge fan of Sidney Sheldon. I like the way he builds the characters and draw the suspense. It is simple, easy for me to digest and not too flowy. I have ALL his books and the last one is Are You Afraid of the Dark?. Yes, last because he died in 2007. I was quite disturbed when I know he's dead because I've run out his book to read.

Anyway just to recap my love affair with him, I was introduced to SS by my roommates in 1995, titled The Best Laid Plan. Since that, I am hooked with his books. My ultimate favorites will be Tell Me Your Dreams and Master of the Game. I re-read them like million of time and never get tired of it.

Ever since he dies, I rarely browse for books anymore, until I found Sophie Kinsella. But that one is on different genre. To date I still can't find another thriller writer that really suit to my liking.

I was waiting for MrComot at Menara Telekom when I saw MPH opened their space at ground floor and is giving 20% off. So I casually browse the books and almost JUMP when I saw this book!

Mistress of the Game by Tilly Bagshawe

I was confused at first because the cover is sooooo SS and so the title, obviously stating his name, but he's dead! How come?! I checked thoroughly then I understand, it is so famous that Tilly Bagshawe wrote a sequel for Master of the Game.

I never read Tilly and in fact never heard of her. I was contemplating to buy it because I'm afraid it will go to waste. But after hesitating like half an hour, I said, why not? After all it is related to SS! And I was really itchy to know what happen after Eve's face is ruined for good. Is she still up for the game?

I've read it for few pages, hardly can find time now with Zahra in hands, but so far so good. The way she writes more or less like SS (but still can note the difference) make me wonder if her other books also like this.

For Sidney Sheldon's fan, lets grab this book and immerse ourselves with a piece of him ;)

Big Bad Wolf Day

For books lover (or sales lover hehe) you must be aware about the most awaiting sale for this year in book category - Big Bad Wolf. I never go to any BBW sale so I don't know how good it is, but according to the shopping&sales site, it's freaking cheap and people is bringing back boxes of book on the first day of the sale. BOXES ok! So dengan perut besarnya, gigih ni pegi checkout the sale last Friday right after hari raya visits, at Amcorp Mall.

I was expecting less people will be there since it is Aidiladha but I was totally wrong! They don't care about raya ok! Massive cars parked at the roadside and outside parking space, luckily MrComot is a true PJ-rian lalalala. Armcorp mall ada basement parking ok and there is a lot of vacancy, so we parked inside with no sweat dropped ha-ha-ha!

The queue at 3PM! I had to be behind that uncle sobs sobs

Another view of the line

Look at the ocean of people. Luckily it is well-air conditioned, so I still can stand the crowd.

Me with the BAD wolf haha, holding my mudpie flurry (ughh why I like sweet thing so much? Must be the baby). Oh ya, no food or drinks allowed, so pls make sure ur finish whatever u have in hands ok.

There were rowssssss of books, piled on long tables, separated by genre - hobbies, fiction, non-fiction, magazines, children, fantasy, etc. We walked table to table, not missing any genre, browsing and admiring the price! Seriously it's freaking cheap.

The craft book priced at RM10 and the novels (fiction) all flat RM8! Unfortunately, I didn't find any writer that I KNOW, ok my choices of reading is not that wide, but I didn't dare to simply buy the books even though it's so cheap because I was afraid I won't like the books. I was hoping to stumble upon names that I recognize like Khaleed Hosseini, Jodi Picoult, John Grisham, Danielle Steel and James Patterson, but none of them flashed into my eyes. I'm not sure either BBW didn't store it or it's finished already because we were quite late to join the rush (wish I can be there on the FIRST day!). However I managed to ask one of the worker if they are stocking Sophie Kinsella in the sale, she said nope, but they do stock Medeleine Wickham! But I was almost at the exit at that time and my feet hurt and I don't have the energy to go back and looking for the books uwaaaaaaa... Come to think of it, I don't remember seeing any of her book, hmm maybe it's sold out already *sigh*

I only bought 5 books for me and surprise surprise surprise, MrComot also bought some! He's not much a reader ok. So when he decided to buy something, I chuckled right away, mcm tak percaya je. But according to him, it's quite latest and too cheap to pass.

Oh ya, after out of BBW, we saw this one book shop at the same level and give it a try. Surprisingly it's quite cheap! Although obviously can't beat BBW. The new novel is priced at RM17.90 and bukan novel bodoh-bodoh tau. Some of them is IN one, like from Cecelia Ahern and Sophie Kinsela but the choice is quite limited. Not all the titles are available. But worth enough for you to check it out.

The gem we discovered

Sesuai sangat the bunting. Oh ya..still beatable but during warehouse sale la. Normal sale still can't beat them.

Anyway this is catches of that day:

From BBW:
Easy Knitted Socks - RM10
Knitted Critters for Kids to wear -RM10
BOTNETS - RM15
Aggressive Networks Self-Defense - RM15
Riding Shotgun - RM5
The Pagan Stone (Nora Roberts) - RM8
Quack Quack (Children book) - RM5

MrComot told me that the two thick books (botnet and network thingy) is very expensive, about RM80 and above and they selling it at RM15? Macam tak percaya ok. Oh ya..itu MrComot punya, mine yang mengarut2 tu la..knitting la, like helooooooooooo, when I'm going to knit? But since it is so cheap, I make it as investment la, who knows, sooner or later I will knit ha-ha-ha!

And the baby book we bought it because it is super cuteness!

For the baby in my belly :P

I also get a few from other shops that sebab tak puas hati hehehe

The Long Road Home - RM17.90 from XCESS
Shopaholic&Baby and Cocktails for Three - both about RM27 each after 15% discount at Popular. Ok la kan..normal price around 31-33. However, if the cocktails for three ada dekat BBW that day and I missed it, memang COCK laa.. hahaha

Talking about the books, I'm not a big fan of Danielle Steel, tapi The Long Road Home ni mmg I cari dah lama. I've read it once and fell in love with it totally, a very heartbreaking story. I tried to locate it few times to add on my collection but failed, kat MPH, Borders, Kino semua takde, you have pre-order so macam malas la. Tak sangka jumpa kat XCESS. Another tittle that I'm searching is Message From Nam (also DS), so in any case you guys found it, beep me ok?

And about Sophie Kinsella, I am officially have all the titles!! Except for Shopaholic Takes Manhattan. Hmm..mcm berat hati nak beli at normal price haha..maybe I can look up at another Popular branch. (Ps: Being frugal is fun :P)

Oh ya, pasal shopaholic collection ni, I remembered that pernah dapat one comment about the duplicity:

mizzhiga said...

hi..i also have the complete series of teh shopaholic..btw, i rasa "confession of shopaholic" and "secret dreamworl of shopaholic" is the same story with different title, isn't it?..sorry kalau salah :D enjoy.. ;)

January 15, 2009 9:01 PM

Hi mizzhiga! (If you are still reading my blog, haha). Yes you are 110% right. It's the same story with different title! Uwaaaaaaaaaaaaaa....how do I know.. Hmm so, now I'm thinking, should I re-sell it (it is totally NEW!) or just give away as a gift. Hmmmhmmhmhmhmhm.. But to who? Nantilah..I fikir-fikir kan :)

Opss before I forgot, the sale ends on 2nd Dec!!! Quick go grab the wolf! :D

Chowrasta Bazaar is where all the books sleep

I'm getting a bit tired with Penang entries but I gotta finish them first before moving on, else I may forget. There will be 2 or 3 more entries related, but maybe I will just sum-up everything in 1 entry hehehe.

Anyway, one place that is compulsory for me to drop by whenever I go to Penang is Chowrasta. Not only because of the fruits pickle (betul ke term tu for jeruk?), but also for the books. It is located right opposite of one big police station along Jalan Penang.

It's a bit hidden at the end of the 1st floor of the building (jeruk is at the ground floor). I discovered this place during my study time in early 2000 and it has been my favourite treasure box ever since. I also have blogged about this place in my old blog (twice I think) but I'm gonna write about it again today :)

When I reached the bookstore, it is a bit shaby but somehow warmth feeling running down through my spine once I see the owner. They never changed, the same uncles with the same smiles. Only the hair changed, additional of gray hair and maybe some wrinkles.

It's weird though, that we don't really have any relationship and yet, I kinda miss them.

Moving on, we spent 4 HOURS at the bookstore and had to go back when I see MrComot already restless hehe

Books heaven

Everything is stacked up to the ceiling

This place is well-known for their second-hand book but they also sell new book and that will be a bit expensive (but still cheaper than normal bookstore). They also bought over books/comics/magazines but I never sell anything yet, so I don't know how good the offer is.

That day I also found old Beano comics (earliest generation on paper) and it is at RM2 per piece. I didn't take it because it has thousands of pieces. If only I have lotsa money, I will buy the collection *sobs*

I have the whole title from Sidney Sheldon and the full set of Tintin, so I ran out of idea what to buy. I mean, I don't really read now. I tried John Grisham, can't finish it yet. Nich Sparks is a bit cheesy for me, McNaught wayyyy cheesier, Stephen King is too high for my vocab and so on. I tried to find Khaled Hosseini and Christopher Moore, but sold out so I decided to buy on something that I don't know if I'm going to like it or not, but I read that most blogger have it - The Shopaholic Series!

I managed to grab 6 of them which is, Confessions Of A Shopaholic, Can You Keep A Secret?, The Secret Dreamworld Of A Shopaholic, Shopaholic Abroad, The Undomestic Goddess, and Shopaholic And Sister. I also bought Kitchen God's Wife from Amy Beh and Water Wings by Lauren McCrossan. I read few pages and mcm best so I decided to give it a try.

It is priced at RM20/piece only (ada yg RM22), you have to haggle a lot. But it's worth the begging since it is not a secondhand piece. Oh ya, I have this fetish to buy new book even though I want to read it one time only. Konon2 nak buat collection la.

And last not least, I bought Asterix!!!!

This will be my ultimate collection!!! The thing with asterix is, it is very expensive (considering it has hundred over series and priced at RM44.90 each). Even if I buy from Chowrasta it is still expensive to me, for me to have the whole set at one go.

So guess how much I got for Asterix?

RM30 each okkk! It's dirt cheap! And totally new! So, bollocks to Kinokuniya, MPH, Borders or whoever want to squeeze RM40 over out of me! Gahhhhhh

Since I am no rich man, so I just buy 11 pieces to add into my current 6 pieces. Leaving me hundreds more to go *sob sob*

Help me! I want Asterix!!

I also bought some Comic Capers series. My fav will be Bananaman!

Do you know how bananaman become bananaman?

Eat banana lah! What else. Duh~

Haha whatever, but I think it is cute and funny.

The place is really insane I told you. With lotsa books at incredible low price, even if you plan not to buy, you still will buy, at least one.

The only minus point for this place is, they *might*not have all the books that we wanted. Like I wanted Chris Moore and Khaled Hosseini. Even Asterix is not available completely. Only few titles are ready.

So my advice is, keep the uncle's phone number and give them a list of what title you would like to buy. They may arrange it for you. And I forgot to do that for my Asterix. Maybe if you go to Chowrasta one day, you can get the number from me? 1st shop from the row eh. Mucha gracias :-*

So this is my current reading ;)
New and cheap :D

Searching the soul

Tiba-tiba hari ni nak cakap pasal buku.

I think I like to read. Yup, I think. Hehehe. But, not as much as I used to. Talking about books, I never read english novel until I was in secondary school. I think because of the environment. My family is a very Malay or kampung punya family. Takde speaking2 ni. And my primary school lagi lah kan. A very small school with only 1 classroom in 1 standard which is equavalent to 25 pupils per standard. The only english book I ever have pun from the yearly anugerah matapelajaran terbaik. I still remember it, Gnome something.

My first english novel was The Best Laid Plan (Sidney Sheldon) that I borrowed from one of my dorm mate. And it turned out nice. Nice enough for me to read the other book. So I started reading and buying any Sheldon's until I completed the set. My best pieces will be Tell Me Your Dreams and Master of the Game.

Yeah I know, some of my friends said, 'you still reading Sidney Sheldon's? It's soo zaman skolah'. I don't know what they meant by it, but I take it as the level of understanding (or IQ?).

First of all, I like thriller stories. Then I like Sheldon's because it is easy for me to understand (that I don't have to open my dictionary too often), it is simple, the characters portrayed are strong (this is one of the best factor, somehow I find it inspiring to have such characters), and the storyline is interesting. At least for me. So I don't care lah zaman skolah ke apa ke, I like Sheldon's :P

My problem now is, Sheldon gone. So I don't know what to read next. I tried a few other authors but so far can't melt my heart.

Wait, I want to make a list I've read, so maybe you guys can highlight me any other author that I might try?

Stephen King - too hard and twisted. I barely can understand when I turned page 3
James Patterson - Too draggy (I read Cat and Mouse, boring ulang2 menda yg sama)
Jodi Picault - So-so, not going to be in my collection
Jeffrey Archer - OK, quite close to Sheldon, but not good enough.
Nora Robert - Ok jugak. But I need second book for justification.
John Grisham - Just reading, not sure yet the outcome.

Romance novel? A no-no for me. I used to read Danielle Steel. Ok for back then but cheesy for now ;P

Anyway, I just borrowed 3 novels from Fiena in order to find my next soulmate.

The 3 different genre

This is my first time reading a chick flick (oooppss! I never read Sophie Kinsela. Teruk kan?) and I like Jemima J! It's about an obese girl motivated to scale down the weight for a guy and later the guy turn out to be a jerk. It's light but irresistible and inspiring. I'm going to get other title from this author.

Nought and Crosses is pretty interesting. The storyline is unpredictable that make you want to read it till the end. It is about apartheid but upside down, the master is the black and the slave is the white. It's a trilogy so I'm gonna get another two from Fiena later. But I don't consider buying this as I find it disturbing.

And now I'm struggling to finish Nic Sparks (I told ya I am not into romance novel).

If you have any novel that you think will suit me, tell me ya! No romance, no emotional thingy, no draggy2, just a simple and sharp thriller ;)

The Old Flames

You guys pernah baca Pedang Setiawan or Alam Perwira tak?

It was such a hit la during my secondary school esp for the boys. The girls drooling over Remaja je (so yucky la pulak thinking of it haha). Anyway since all the guys busy flipping this Pedang Setiawan, Alam Perwira, Jengking Merah, etc, some of the girls wanna show their machoness as well, so bacalah jugak. I don't know if it is true, but I used to read it because I think it is hmm..macho! Ahahaha.

Anyway, after a while I found it is not my thing so I stop reading it, after a few series. Pening kepala with all the actions, hikmat peringat ke-9, tumbukan keramat, etc.

Mr Comot quite impressed with me that I know Pedang Setiawan. Hehehe seee I told ya, it's macho-thing okay. Anyway he told me about his collection; Juara-Juara Kembar. I asked him to bring some for me and I'm obsessed with it now!!!

Juara-Juara Kembar

I found it is funny and entertaining instead of headache-ing. (But I do skip a few scenes that have too many A tendang B, B pukul A, A tetak B :P)

The storyline is sooooo unpredictable. It is anticipating to know what's next and next, with lots of good action with funny captions like hikmat mencantumkan bunga memindahkan zamrud, hikmat keramat bayangan, hikmat mencuci tulang sum-sum & membersihkan otak. The character's name is interesting too like this Du Tangan Berdarah, Li Mulut Lebar, Kili Nawa, Trio Sinar, Ting&Tang.

Do you know that Li Mulut Lebar punya hobby is eating human? He even eat his own wife on their first night after wedded.

See I told ya it is interesting ;)

Anyway, another thing that I found rather interesting is that their susun-atur ayat is good! They even have some idioms in the dialogue and make me chuckles sometimes. Teringat zaman kecik2 dulu cikgu ajar peribahasa.

Sepandai-pandai tupai melompat, akhirnya jatuh ke tanah juga

Kecil-kecil cili api!

Pucat seperti mayat

Dalam laut boleh diduga, dalam hati siapa yang tahu

If you notice, their grammar is correct too! Like 'diduga' (no space between di and duga as duga is the verb). Eh betul ke? Tiba2 macam confuse balik 'duga' is a verb or not. It is more like feeling. Hmm...*going to study balik*

By the way, I already finished up to jilid 10 (what is jilid in english anyway? it's like accumulation of series mcm tu). 1 jilid got 3 episodes. This story has about 30 jilid. So another 20 to go.

Hehehe...this going to be my weekend I guess.

Have a fun weekend guys!

The Fantabulous Penang

Penang is fantastic and fabulous, as ever. 2 things that I can always brag about Penang is the food and the cheap bargain. When I said cheap, it's really, really cheap.

The last trip to Penang was a short one, as it's on work purpose. However, I managed to tour as many places as I can. I went to the butterfly farm (it's cheesy right? :P). Well, the last time I visit the park is like 10 years ago, and I still find it's fascinating for this 2nd trip. Overall, it's only full of many types butterfly. But it's really exciting when u try to find different types of butterflies. We were like 'ehhh..yg ni dah amik gambar?', 'hey, have u seen this? the blue one', 'aaaa...comeynyaa.. it got batik design on the wing', etc.

Ain't it gorgeous?

Sharing the lunch

The most memorable part is when suddenly a butterfly volunteering park at your hands. It's soooo sweet, I tell ya. From what we read in the gallery, sometimes the butterflies stop on the sand to get the mineral, so I guess the one that parked at my hands was trying to get the salt from my sweat. It's so humid inside that I went sweating like a morning jog.

Searching for minerals

Hunting for food is quite plain for this trip. We only go trial and error. Some is satisfying, some is frustrating. Anyhow, if you are in Penang, don't forget to try USM cafeteria, the Keow Teow Th'eng at Fajar Harapan. The clear soup is really mouth-watering.

I had full bowl of koay teow with chicken sausage, fish cake, chicken shred, and fish ball at only RM 3.++

There are another places I would like to recommend, Char Koay Teow at Bukit Mertajam. Location is hard to map out here but if you are there, maybe you can ask the local or your Penangites friends. No picture taken as the lights went off at that time and we were having the famous dish in small light of candle, plus the roadside lights.

What made me quite frustrated is I missed the chance to taste the Mee Udang, Laksa Penang and Nasi Lemak Bukit Jambul --> Lauk ikan sambal gila vavis sedap oke. Kecewa tau. Nanges. But I hope I can eat all of them when I go back to Penang.

Ok, let's brag about the cheapo bargain.

DVDs is UNBELIEVEABLE cheap okkkkk!! I almost faint at the DVD stall after knowing the price. You can get RM4 per peace without having to haggle like mad auntie. Remember the CSI box set I bought before? That was in KL (well, I thot KL is already cheap lor) and after bought 6 boxes that I only given RM50 per box. Per box is like 5 DVDs. So RM10 per piece. In Batu Ferringhi Night Market, the box set is only RM20! Nanges! Some more, if u buy 10 pieces (RM40) get one free. Nanges again! But of course la without the nice box, but of course you don't mind right.
I always download the series because it's free kan, but since it's only RM20, why not. I grabbed 2 seasons of NipTuck and few movies and audio CD. The Modern Talking is giler rare ok!! I searched down and low to download but couldn't find the whole album. Of course la u can buy it in music store but it's RM40 okk.

I will come back to Penang in the future for the collectible DVD of series. Wishlist; Ally McBeal, Desperate Housewives, Prison Break, Veronica Mars, Le Femme Nikita, and Boston Legal (The list is increasing). BTW, do anyone of you know where can I get The Nanny? I've been drooling for this since dulu2 lagi but couldn't find it.

Annnndd another bargain that we need to cheer real loud is the BOOKS! I know you can get 2nd hand books at decent price easily here. But how about you can get totally new book with 2nd hand's price? Chowrasta Bazaar never stop to amuse me. Last time I went there to get my Tintin collection. They sell it at RM20 per piece, compared to market price, RM29.90. I once asked about Asterix, but they don't have it.

And during this trip, I just asked my luck and guess what, they have it!

It's priced at RM44.90/piece at normal bookstore (Kino, MPH) and I got this for RM25 per piece okkk!! And still in plastic wrapper. Since my Tintin collection is completed, I plan to collect Asterix next, but it got about 100++ (or more? not sure sbb dah byk sgt).

Annnnd I also bought this, new title from Jodi Picault at RM20 (pitam!). 2 pieces from Ramlee Awang Mursheed. The towkey gave me RM10 per piece. Giler saiko okeh. Normal price is RM19.90/piece. The best deal I ever get for Malay novels pun during sale, like 15-20% less. But never at flat ten.

I was almost out of the shop (it was already 8PM and it's on the way to close), that I saw two pieces of this Beano Books, and I grabbed both. The other one titled Robbers and Cops. He gave me RM5 per piece! It's hard cover tau, and 100% colored. Suitable for kids or light reading.

If you wish to go to Chowrasta, it is next to Komtar. You have to climb up the jenjantas and it's in front of a big police station. It is on the 1st level. Walk until the end of the floor and you will see the shops, selling books. The ground floor is the pickle fruits heaven. I also bought jeruk Salak and Kedondong but no pic, dah abes makan, terlupa nak snap :P

There are more places I wish I have the time to go, especially the small antique shops selling rare jeweleries and accessories.

Worry not, Penang, see u sooner or later ;)
