❤ Cloud Costume ❤

So! Remember the I made something-something for Kiddos School?

Recap: I was involved in making mascot costume for my children's kindergarten. They have 5 sports house which is pink, yellow, green, blue and orange.

The sports day was inspired by Japanese sports day - Taiiku No Hi. So basically there are cloud, fire, mother earth, air and water to represent each sports house color.

And today I would like to share with you guys how I made the cloud costume representing the pink sport house color.

This is my first time sharing tutorial so I miss few pictures to show you what I did but basically you'll get the picture I hope.

A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E isn't it?

Basically, these are the tools that I used:
  • Felt
  • Loose fibre / polyfill
  • Adhesive Spray
  • Spray paint

As I don't really have the exact measurement of the wearer, I took my Emir's pyjama (he's 3yo and in PINK team) for rough measurement and fold blue felt into two, and sketch the bubbly cloud free-hand.

Cut the two pieces of felt to resemble basic shape of the cloud

Sew side by side and two pieces of elastic on top of the bubbly cloud.

Sorry no real picture, but basically it's something like this. The elastic has to connect to two pieces so that the wearer can wear it like an overall.

I used spray adhesive to stick the loose fibre (polyfill) to the felt pieces

Do it slowly one side each time

 Like so!

And you need to touch up for prominent holes. Spray more adhesive and stuff more fibre at the gaps. This seriously need time, so take your time.

Until you satisfied with the outcome

And put on your child just for fun. Zahra is kinda tall for a 4yo, so the costume looks small for her. I asked her to pose nicely and she gave me this face. Oh well....

On a second thought, it looks more like a sheep than a cloud. But...never mind =D

Then I spritz some pink spray paint (as it is pink sports house remember?) which makes it more like a sheep *roll eyes*

Sheep or not, it is sooooo adorable!! The elastic was kinda low, so the teacher knot them up. Perfect!

 A cloud among others

And can you notice that the cloud has rainbow legging? Suuuuperrrr adorable!!

It's pretty easy to make but the cons is, the fibre couldn't hold throughout the event and decided to fall off slowly *insert horror face here*. Imagine how panic I was...I mean, he is a mascot and the costume is falling apart. Oh noooooooooo......I feel like running into the performance area and fix it up haha.

Actually, the spray adhesive is pretty strong but the fibre is kinda hollow and it just break randomly.

I was so excited about this project and IG/FB-ed about it, and made a contest even! Under hashtag #imadecostumewoohooooo and #guessthecostumecontest if you would like to see it.

So, the guesses was

  • olaf
  • biri-biri (sheep)
  • a wig
  • para-para yassin senario (even I don't know what's that haha)
  • cotton candy
  • clown
  • burung helang (an eagle)

Soo..sooo...soooo funny!! LOL!

Ok..so that's it. What do you think about my cloud costume? Be honest! I won't bite! =D

I made something something for the sports day!

Haha..ok tajuk tak boleh blah.

Hola!

Actually I have a lot of stories to share...but I am on instagram now and things are shared faster that way! And by the time I want to write about it, poof! the mood gone like the thin smoke in the air. Haaa dramatic tak? Haha...but it's trueeeeeeeeee!

Anyway, nothing beats good old blog where I can rant as much as I want, as long as I want! Hehe!

Ok...so what I've been up to these few weeks......

making costume for kiddos sports day!

And not only for Zahra..it's like for the whole school!

I know, how come right?

It started about early of the year I think. I made a simple costume for MrComot and myself to the company's dinner. I was a cute witch and MrComot was a vamp. (woaa...I think I didn't post it in my lovely blog. Maybe I'll write about it later, need to find those pictures!) And naturally I posted it in FB and then kiddos school headmistress saw it and was very excited to have me making costume for their sportsday!

And that was like, months ago!

Initially I thought it is nothing serious and maybe just a little collaboration where I give some input or ideas for the costume....but somehow....I get to do them, all by myself *squeeeeel with excitement*

To be truth, it's kinda scary. I mean, "are you sureeeeee you want to make the costumes..you are not THAT artsy fartsy ok. Plus, you don't have the experience. Super plus, what if they don't like it".

That's what I've been thinking over and over but the universe somehow works towards it. With the headmistress trust and what not, I manage to pull up my sleeve and finish them all.

Even I am surprised with myself. Something that I never dreamt off - to make costumes for the school. Not only for my kids..but for others kids. Woaaa...

So anyway.. let's go through with the pics.

My kiddos' first sports day. The theme was the element which consist of earth, air, fire, water and cloud, inspired by the Japanese sports day Taiiku No Hi.

Can you spot all the costume?

Mommy with princess. She is the earth team. The attire concept and the headgear done by the teachers. All hand-made. The teachers are very crafty too!!

I was responsible for their main costume except for fire as one of the teacher did the fire costume. The design and concept was brainstormed with the headmistress via whatsapp, FB and email. And I got most my ideas from random websites, pinterest especially. The wonders of technology ehehehe.

Below is the main costume that I made.

Cuddly cloud with pinkish dot as their team is pink color.

Hot air balloon for AIR team (yellow sport house)

Earth for green sport house

Other pictures that I don't have is water fairy for water team (blue sport house) and rainbows. Rainbows is their flag bearer.

I will elaborate more about EACH costume in separate entries, with some tutorials I hope! ;)

So anyway, the kids had sooo sooo much fun.

Zahra is in green team (earth) and Emir is in pink team (cloud).

My princess is the flag bearer, so she's wearing the rainbow
But what surprised me most..was my handsome boy.

He is kinda shy and introvert type and I am well aware that he doesn't socialize much and the fact that his bestfriend is Thomas...that pretty much sum up his behavior. So, when the cloud team line up and made performance (some singing and movement), I am so surprised to see that Emir willingly stand in the line and dance together!

He is such a clever boy! *sniffles*

He gave me the occasional look and smile at me while doing all the moves *tears*

Emir standing and singing together with his team. His moves is not perfect but I am so happy with this improvement!
Zahra on the other hand...drama queen habis. Her performance is top notch I'll say! MrComot did videotaping it but I haven't have the chance to see it yet. But seriously...full of emotion! Her face, her movement LOL. Am thinking to send her to acting class...just for fun, if she likes it.

Learning naturally through play ;)

They had some games after that but Emir refused to join. I think dah penat kot buat performance. Cukup la tuh mommy, mana boleh banyak2 hehehe.

Anyway I even joined the "pick the candy in flour using your mouth" and the "tie your leg with your kid and run as fast as you can to the finish line" game. It was so much fun! Too bad I didn't win either. Pfftttt!

Balik2 rumah je both mommy and daddy pengsan but the kids stayed up until bedtime at night! I wonder where they get the super power.

I showered them and gave milk but they still awake watching TV! Kuatnya battery budak ni! I already had my nap when I took this picture. Don't mind the messy spot. It has been always like that.

There it goes, our first kiddos sports day!

InsyaAllah will try to write about the costume soon. In the middle of sorting the pictures.

Anyway, just to tell you all, I even host a contest on the costumes I made, on instagram and FB. I initially would like to host it here as well, but was a chaotic that day, so tak sempat :(

But it was loads of fun.

Opss..sorry gotta go! Talk soon! :*

Tailor Wannabe

If you are in my FB friendlist, or follow my IG, you'll notice that I've started sewing. I'm not really keen on real sewing, like the tailoring and drafting stuff. Just simple one on creative side.

Anyway, Zahra is a real princessy type. She only wears dress nowadays and refused to wear shirt with legging because apparently, princess only wear dresses "-_-.

I'm fine with it but the hardest part is most of her dresses are kinda short (slightly above the knee) and the school encourage the children to wear legging underneath it to promote decency (which I totally agree) but Zahra said "princess tak pakai legging". okaaayyy. So I kinda ran out of dresses for her schooldays already.

Wanted to buy some but a dress can cost so much nowadays. Especially the fluffy and long type one. Some of her old shirts is still in a very good shape, so I decided to refashion it, and turn it into a dress!

From this
To this

It is really simple indeed. I just cut some pink tshirt knit in my stash as the lining and gather the tutu @ mesh @ kain net orang kita panggil, and attach it to the shirt. There are several types of tutu in the market, this is the soft type where it won't make your skin itch (so you don't have to line it if you don't want to) but I line it since it's sheer. I found this fabric in Kamdar. I ran out the pink glitter tutu so I mix it up with purple plain tutu.

Presenting you...a new dress!
And she proudly wears it to school! But I'm far from commercial because one of the teacher asked me did I make the dress by myself &^*&^&%&## LOL! It must look so homemade! Hahaha. Nevermind..at least she has one 'new' dress in her wardrobe now.

My Little Repunzel

Have you watched Tangled? Ok..what a silly question. It is eons ago but the movie always grows on me. The character, the song..it is so magical. I never get bored watching it, so Zahra. She loves this version of Repunzel so much and I always wanted to make Repunzel playdress for her but couldn't spare the time, until I read this tutorial from LiEr :- http://www.ikatbag.com/2013/04/wig.html

It looks easy and simple enough to do it in a short time so I decided to give it a go. I tried to find nude or yellowish fleece to make it as close as Repunzel's hair in the movie but couldn't find it..well, I found one at Kamdar but the quality is not that good, so I opt for this brownish color. It's fleece blanket from Tesco actually. Well, it's long and wide enough, so that will do.

Cut about 6 strips

combine all. Fleece won't fray so you don't have to serge it.

Snip some bang

Tadaaaaaa!!! Well, it's a bit loose as the pattern is for older age.
And she's so happy with it. Keep on twirling with the 'long' hair.

I altered it a little bit after that - just add a few cm of hem to make the cap tighter. Anyway, I made this in September 2013 and she still loving it til now. Am so so so happy I made this!

Latest pic with the wig last month. Repunzel is going shopping!

I think I should make costume dresses for her. I can always buy...but it's so exciting to make by myself. Somehow it makes me feel like a superwoman LOL. But I just couldn't fit the time, so I guess I am not a superwoman after all :-)
